A journey to the Bauhaus

Yesterday I went for a long walk to the Bauhaus-Archiv (that's Bauhaus Archives if you need a translation). It was very inspiring as always. And I came across some interesting buildings on my way there. I will definately be making work about some of these buildings...

Amongst other things, there was a little exhibition on at the Bauhaus about chairs without legs! It was pretty cool.

A finished print (kind of)

I have been working hard on one print over the last few days. It has become a big experiment as I have come across a variety of problems - mainly, I think, because I am using cheap ink. I will be investigating other inks in the very near future...
So anyway below are some of the examples of my print. I am not really happy with it, but it has been interesting.

 

 

Also, I was going to do a post a couple of days ago with the print in progress, but it would've been boring so I didn't. Here is the picture I was going to use.

Printing... (Plus some quite exciting news!)

On Monday I decided to do a simple print to get used to using the press. But I really don't like it and I can't bring myself to put it on my blog! But instead here's a photo of my desk and a drawing/collage I'm working on.

Today I started a new print - I have been getting to grips with the press and I feel more positive about this one. It's going to be a while until I finish it as it has seven colours and I've just printed just one so far. But here's me doing it!

In other news:
I found a Woolworths! (Well actually it's just a Woolworth.)

Yes, this is my quite exciting news...

Another walk and another collage!

Below is a drawing/collage of an enormous factory that I finished yesterday. I'm not sure how I feel about it, I spent so long on it I can't look at it objectively.

I went for a walk to Prenzlauer Berg yesterday to a big flea market, below are a couple of photos from my journey there. It was a lovely day, very cold but lovely and sunny. You can see the famous Ampelmann traffic lights in the first picture!

At the moment I'm just getting a piece of lino ready to start my first print. Exciting.

A walk and some collages

Over the last couple of days I have been doing some collages of the carpark. Just experiments at the moment...

 

  

I went for a long walk today and followed the river into the centre of Berlin. I walked past some very interesting buildings. I love the bleakness of these buildings.

First day in Berlin

Well, here I am. My first day in Berlin. I'm staying in Wedding which is North of the centre. An area of Berlin that I don't know very well but what I've seen of it so far looks great.

Today I am going to explore Wedding and take lots of photos!


I've already noticed this massive multi-storey carpark just over the road from me...

This is the building I'm living and working in. It's lovely, there's so much space.

Here's the press which I'm going to be using for linocuts and woodcuts. And also lithograph when I've learnt how to do it!

I think that about completes my first blog post (ever). I thought I'd just give you a taste of what it's like here so far. But now I am going to explore.
